okashi connection march edition,

its that time when all my candy subscriptions all turn up in one week and i spend the following week eating my way through the boxes and reviewing with my taste tester son

               OKASHI CONNECTION.
this is a Japanese candy and snack subscription box that comes out every month and is shipped world wide for $22.00 .postage is included in the price,
shipped direct from Tokyo,it takes about 2 weeks to get to the UK.
once opened you go onto the members blog and there you will find out about all the products in the box.
the box contains about a pound or 450g weight of candy and snacks which focus on seasonal items rather than weird filler items.
OK so on opening the box i knew this subscription was going to be a keeper.

also this month i was invited to buy the add on ,these you go to a link and then you can purchase as many of the items  as you want, i passed this month as it was chocolate,

so what did we find in my box this month,

CALBEE SWEET POTATO CRISPS,
These sweet potato chips are a cross between a wotsit corn puff and a potato crisp,quite sweet in flavour but very tasty, this had a slight salty taste and like the company said varied to what your drinking at the time, it seemed to be less salty with a hot drink,

GARI BORI SPICY GARLIC RAMEN NOODLES.

these are not instant noodles where you add water ,these are crispy noodles eaten from the pack, quite heavy on the garlic and they are very crumbly,but great for an energy hit or for snacking while doing revision or watching films, an interesting concept but a really good and big hit in japan

EBI SEBEI CHIPS,

These are shrimp or prawn flavoured and really tasty,had them before ,very fishy but the intense flavour satisfies you for longer,a crispy snack. 

PUKUPUKU TAI.

an aerated waffle biscuit filled with a dry aerated chocolate filling, these are great ,large and tasty and great with a hot drink to relax with.

these are sold with various fillings ,for instance red bean ,or cream cheese ,or black bean paste,

WATAPACHI MELON SODA.

this is a layer of cotton candy with a strong melon flavour ,quite refreshing and it has cracking popping candy mixed in, this needs to be eaten straight away as the air kills the cotton candy quick,

UMI NO GUMI ZUKAN DIY,

is a sea creature gummy kit.they have an odd texture as they are not chewy rather a dry grainy textured blob in the mouth,

DARS WHITE CHOCOLATE,

individual chunks of pure creamy white chocolate whats not to love,

pocky koma-san MILKYCREAM,

pocky biscuits are everywhere ,but these limited edition flavour white chocolate ones are only in selected places and also selected numbers made,kola-san is a dog statue that is found round japan protecting temples,
these are mild milk flavoured a little like milk malt biscuits in the UK.

PUCCA CHOCOLATES,
these are like the panda biscuits a crispy cookie outer and creamy chocolate inner,the packaging folds out and has a game printed inside great for train travel,
these taste really  nice and the box didn't take long to eat.

BLUEBERRY TARTLETS.
OK so another new flavour for us to try this time blueberry and wow these are good,
a soft crumbly pastry and a sweet sour jammy blueberry filling, these are great on there own or with a hot drink,
each are individually wrapped,for total freshness,

so this months box was sweet and savoury and i kind of liked the offerings ,the blueberry tarts were tasty and as were the rilakkuma pretzels,the sweet potato corn crisps were very tasty,the pocky was nice ,pocky is pocky,i like the pakupaku- tai and also the melon candy cotton. so this is a thumbs up box from myself and my son,and i can't wait to see what April brings,

MY BOX,

CUTE YA WHITE CHOCOLATE ALMOND COOKIE ROLLS,
i luuurve these, a crispy crunchy nutty  roll covered in white chocolate and almonds, so tasty,

CORIS FUE RAMUNE CANDY.
i received grape in a previous box and love grape this time round i have received the strawberry flavour,these are cool Japanese sweets a little like UK polo sweets but they are not hard these are softer, and while in the mouth you can blow through the hole it whistles ,how cool is that,they are made with traditional ramune fizzy soda flavours,each pack has 8 sweets and a toy. 

JAPANESE BUBBLE GUM,
from a selection  ,i got pepsi and grape flavours,
with real fruit juices and such a great packaging,

CALEBREE CORN CRACKERS,LOBSTER IN SUPREME SOU FLAVOUR,
these tasted like  a prawn cocktail crisp flavour, very moorish and didn't last long, these a crispy and had a great crunch to them,a great size bag,

MEIJI DIY MUSHROOM CHOCO BISCUITS.

make the mushrooms how you like,these are fun to make,

ARI- GATO SQUID SESAME CRACKER.
squid cracker balls ,these smelt so strong of squid ,this is the first thing in all the boxes we didn't like, i think the smell was too strong for us.i was hoping they would be like a prawn cracker ,the taste was OK but the smell was overly strong for us,

EDO  UMAIBO CORN SNACK -CHEESE.

THINK OF Cheetos, or wotsits crisps.these are long bars of crispy crunchy cheesiness,

these were really tasty one for me and one for the son, he sole half of mine.

worth buying again especially for the sons lunch at school.

a great February box,plenty of variety in it consists of sweet and savoury. only one product we didn't like in all the boxes we have ordered so value for money and something different in each box. look on the new website for other offers ,

the Chinese new year box.

this is a huge celebration.a time to catch up with friends and family.spend time eating special food and the traditional red packets are given out for good luck , a.ka. laisee.

MY BOX.

TOHATO CARAMEL CORN,CNY EDITON,
oh these are Divine ,they are crispy crunchy corn snacks covered in caramel.
these are cute in a star shape.

CHOC COINS,
these were in the red envelope ,abcdeat are giving us these wishing us a prosperous and healthy new year,

JAN HON HONEY SWEET FLOUR CAKE,
now these are really sweet and i think i need to find a source in the UK to buy them,these are sweet and crunchy and very chewy,it is deep fried sweet dough then covered in a honey syrup.and covered with sesame seeds.

JAN HON BROWN SUGAR SWEET FLOUR CAKE.
a Chinese sweet dessert that is a crunchy and chewy  sweet..
deep fried dough covered in a sticky black sugar syrup.black sugar is darker and stronger and more dense than regular sugar so gives this pastry a deeper stronger  flavour,

YAN'S COCONUT CREAMY CANDY RED AND GREEN STYLE.
these can be found on many osechi boxes ,these are special food boxes found in the home that anyone can pick into as they please over the festive area.
the red sweets are a hard coconut candy, and the green ones are a chewy coconut candy, 

DRIED SALTED EGUSI SEEDS,
fat free,protein free,these are ,melon, squash,gourd,seeds.
the way to eat these is to you use your teeth to break the edge then pop the inner seed out to eat.
the black bag are salty and the red bag are are normal. great for munching on ,

so this is a great box and we can now make our own  osechi box for having when we are snacking around ,during the TV or watching films or playing cards./
this is also a great guide as o regular foods to be found in every house during the chinese new year.

these melt in the mouth ganache chocolates are tasty.
for the past 20 years meiji releases these for a few weeks in winter as a special edition,and people all over japan give them as gifts to loved ones.

the box had some lovely stamps on ,yes we have been saving them off each box.

well packaged in bubble wrap inside so nothing it damaged, the outer box is nice and strong.

KOREA RICE CAKE COOKIE ORIGINAL (KOREA).
a chai tteok  or glutinous rice.
this is encased in a soft butter cookie.it combines traditional Korean with modern western pastry.
its more a pie than a cookie .the filling was creamy and tasty and would love more of these as they were filling and tasty,

HEART CRAYON SHIN-CHAN DIY BUTT SHAPED PUDDING.(JAPAN).
this kit is made up in seconds.
you need a cup ,milk,a plate and toothpick,and a microwave,you heat up and then chill in the fridge.when it hardened up you pick it up with a toothpick,you then pop the pudding in a sauce of your choice and eat,

EDO ASSORTED FRUIT GUMMY CANDY.(JAPAN)
these are chewy gummy candies each has a different flavour,the small packs are easy for on the go snackage.
really fruity and refreshing to eat, one pack keeps you good on a train journey or shopping the boxing day sales for sure.

SKYSAIL CHESTNUT (MADE IN CHINA FOR THE HONG KONG MARKET.)
these are pre peeled chestnuts that can be eaten anytime ,non messy but tasty.
crunchy and tasty i love chestnuts.we get these in the uk for catering in vacuum packs, i love the ones with a sugar coating over as well.

DAHFA DRIED FISH SLICES.(MALAYSIA)
these are fish strings made from cuttlefish.with no cholesterol no fat or salt. they can be eaten straight from the packet and also deep fried ,these are tasty. but once back to work I'm going to try them deep fried to see if the flavour comes through different due to being crispy.

RICHEESE AHH TRIPLE CHEESE CORN STICK.(INDONESIA)
cheesy wafers a great cheese snack with no mess. flavour is nice and strong and the rolls are crispy.the cheese filling inside is quite nice .not powdery like i imagine these are , i had visions of TUC cheese biscuits glad they were better.

JACK N JILL CHIPS (A PHILIPPINES BRAND MADE IN CHINA FOR THE HONG KONG MARKET)
crunchy potato chips , lovely flavour,they are spicy flavour, but not as in blow your head off like western spicy means ,these were more subtle and moorish.

YAOKIN RULER CANDY(JAPAN)
a cola or grape choice we was given.
i received cola whoop whoop
this candy is shaped like a ruler , i really like the texture of this ,and it was a great flavour.

SOUR PLUM LOLLIPOP.(HONG KONG)
omg more !.we got these in the last box, i don't like the malt covering on them ,and they take hours to eat, i like sour plums and i like that it has a sweet candy wrapped round it, i gave one to the son and people at work last month lol. but the lollipop actually tasted better than the sweets did.

overall a good box with some interesting flavours going on this month .both myself and the son eat this box and road test it out. and it was all eaten rather quickly this month.
